The Guardian Summary: ''Propaganda artists from North Korea paint a rose-tinted China''

'KTV Gives Us a Voice'

This article talks about two british artists Nick Bonner and Dominic Johnson-Hill, that live in North Korea since 20 years ago and made six medium size paintings that describes the sociopolitical situation in China. These images are exposed in the Beijing Design Week and have a very pop style and denote the emblem of the today era in China, developing the main symbols of this culture in a Maoist system. Mr. Comrade Kim says ‘We wanted to show contemporary China as it could have been, if it had continued with Maoist ideology.” This text explains how the poses of the figures, the colors and the objects based in the scene make the idyllic situation of happiness. Bonner says that the artists have a foreign gaze so this creates dreamier scenery.

This view tries to points out that under Maoist idyllic regime, existed a lot of hidden social conditions and human right abuses, the paintings exacerbate the contrary assumption.

A COUNTRY I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT

Hi! There’s a lot of fantastic, amazing and beautiful places I would like to know in many continents of the world, like Italy, Morocco, Germany, Iceland, Malaysia, Japan, New York and others but If I must put a place in the first position I would like to visit France because a lot of things.

The first reason is because the painters I most like are French, like Cezanne, Manet, Matisse, Courbet, Millet, Gauguin, Duchamp and Yves Klein for example, and I would like to visit museums like Louvre or Matisse Museum and watch personally the paintings I most like from those artists, it would be a fabulous experience specially because my trade is painting.

Another reason is the food, I like very much the wine and herbs and the French gastronomy is from high quality at this point, I would like to try dishes with mushrooms, shellfish, vegetables, fish and fruits and well-known cheeses.

Finally, France is a sport’s country and it has a lot of forest and green fields. I like bike ride and enjoy nature so would have fun in many cities of this country!

MY IDEAL JOB

I’ve been thinking many times about what I’m going to do with my life after graduate, studing arts in this country is pretty difficult because,  there aren’t enough spaces or market to develop artistic isssues and get economic autonomy easily at the same time.
I’m in the last year of my career and i know the situation, so this year i became to work in a shoe’s store, by the moment i like that work because allows me to get enough time to work in my personal projects and study and  to save up money, the place is very nice because it’s a small commercial gallery. What I don’t like of my job is that it’s doesnt have relation with my career and i don’t have flexible timetable, so I hope when I get out of the School of Arts to solve my artistic works with my job and dedícate the half of the time to make arts, specially painting, while I find a way to work in a  subject that allows me to improve my knowledges.
I decided to study arts because there’s nothing that I can do more tan this, I have been painting all my life and it makes me feel actually happy.
I always have been thinking that i wouldn’t like to work all the day in front of a computer so i considered initially careers that has got relation with nature but what i realy do well is artistic Jobs. I would like to work in artistic targets like painting but i know that painting order a lot of years of work and dedication so if I need t olive by something and develop my knowledges I would like to make commercial proyects related with interior, decorative or industrial design with very creative features and qualities but useful, easy and simple, perhaps artistic tools, illumination services, artistic packaging, handbags, tees or maybe something related even with food, but what I chiefly want is to have quality of life in all senses, as of work in a job i love and collaborate with the people’s ‘way of life to live in a natural environment, not  Santiago City. While I paint during all my life, I hope soon to sale some paintings but I wouldn’t like to force my paintigs to be sell.
